Keene State tops Simpson

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Simpson baseball team opened play at the Russ Matt Greater Phoenix Invitational Sunday, dropping a pair of decisions to Keene State. Keene State won game one 11-6 and game two 9-2.

With the losses, Simpson's record moves to 1-3 overall.

In the first game of the day, Keene State broke open a 1-1 tie with eight runs in the bottom of the third. The Owls accumulated seven hits in the inning and took advantage of three errors by the Storm.

Clint Rhodes (0-1) took the loss on the mound, allowing 13 hits and 10 runs - eight earned - in 5 1/3 innings. Scott Ethell led Simpson at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Keene State jumped out to 6-0 lead in the first three innings on the way to the win in game two.

Kyle Hanna (1-1) went six innings in the loss, allowing 13 hits. Ethell, Brad Agan and Drew Yarkosky all had a hit for the Simpson, which managed only three on the game. Ethel doubled and Agan and Yarkosky drrove in runs.
