Ethell receives all-region nod

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson senior third baseman Scott Ethell (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville) earned a spot on the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Region Team, as announced by the Association Wednesday.

Ethell led Simpson to a 23-18 record in 2010, finishing the regular season fifth in the Iowa Conference. The Storm then put together a 3-2 run at the conference tournament, earning a third-place finish after falling to runner-up Wartburg in the semifinals. The run ended a two-year drought in which the Storm failed to win a game in the postseason.

A transfer from Marshalltown Community College a year ago, Ethell finished the season first on the team and second in the league with a .420 batting average, the best in the program since 2006. His 17 doubles tied for second in the conference and are the most by a Simpson player since 2004. Ethell hit five home runs for the Storm and had a team-high 41 RBIs. He ended his two-year career at Simpson with a .369 batting average, the sixth-best in program history.
