Quartet of Simpson track and field athletes named all-region

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson track and field athletes Isaac Frazier, Dylan Kalinay, Emmitt Wheatley and Sarah Galbraith earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region honors for their efforts during the 2015-16 indoor season, as announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this month.

Additionally, the men's team closed the indoor season ranked seventh in the final Central Region standings.

To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

The 2016 Iowa Conference Indoor Field MVP, Frazier earned all-region honors in the heptathlon and the 60-meter hurdles. The junior won a conference title in the heptathlon with 4,654 points, good for second in the Central Region. He ran 8.40 in the 60 hurdles to take second at the IIAC Championships, good for third in the region.

Kalinay, a sophomore, made the all-region team by running 8.31 in the 60 hurdles at the Wis.-Stevens Point Final Qualifier on March 5.

Freshman speedster Wheatley earned all-region honors in the 60- and 200-meter dashes. He had the No. 4 time in the Central Region in the 60 (7.02) and the No. 2 time in the 200 (22.58). Wheatley earned all-conference honors in both events, placing third in the 60 and winning the 200.

The lone female representative for the Storm on the all-region team, Galbraith had the Central Region's No. 5 effort in the pentathlon. The senior won the Iowa Conference title with a career-best 3,031 points on Feb. 26.

The Storm and head coach Dave Cleveland will begin the outdoor season Saturday, April 2 at the Central Invitational in Pella, Iowa.
