Hicks, Obermark, Miller all victorious at Saturday Invitational
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Simpson College women's wrestling team returned to tournament action at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational in Mount Vernon this Saturday. The Storm gathered three first place finishes, four runner-up trophies and three third-place medals.
Emaline Hicks (103), Annelise Obermark (145) and Morgan Miller (207) all won their brackets, while Jalynn Goodale (117), Ashley Cannon (124), Keeley Kehrli (160), and Savannah Sistad (207) all came in second. In total, 17 wrestlers were placewinners and Simpson tallied a meet-high 22 pins.
INDIVIDUAL TITLES
- Emaline Hicks (103) defeated Sofia Kawano (Eureka) via pin in 1:55. Hicks defeated her semifinal opponent from Iowa Central with an 8-3 decision.
- Annelise Obermark (145) defeated her first two opponents with technical falls before securing a spot in the final with a pin over Iowa Central's Kammie Schanz in 1:54. She defeated May Prado (Wartburg) in a high-scoring 20-12 decision for the title.
- Morgan Miller (207) edged teammate Savannah Sistad for the championship with a 4-0 decision. Miller defeated her previous two opponents in 2-1 and 3-0 decisions, respectively.
