Storm volleyball receive USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Simpson College volleyball team stretched its streak to 13 straight United States Marine Corps. (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Awards, the organization announced.

This is now the 15th time in program history the Storm have received the honor since the award was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year. Volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale to receive the accolade.

Overall, 1,275 collegiate and high school teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season. There were 233 NCAA Division III teams selected for the honor to capture the new all-time mark for the division.

Head coach Kekailoa Palea is coming off his first season leading the Storm. Simpson went 2-6 after upsetting league-favorite Dubuque in the season opener. The 2021 fall slate begins Sept. 1 with a home match against Grinnell.
