Bak, Ellingson turn in All-American performances

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Kinsey Bak placed fourth in the high jump and Catie Ellingson took fifth in the Mile, giving each All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Bak, a junior from Hinton, Iowa, cleared 5-5 1/4 on her second attempt to finish in a three-way tie for fourth. The All-America honors are the second in the indoor high jump for Bak and third overall. She placed third in the indoor high jump in 2010 and fifth outdoors.

Elizabeth Evans from Rose-Hullman cleared 5-7 3/4 on her first try, giving her the national championship.

In the Mile, Ellingson ran a 4:59.79, spending a majority of the race in lanes two and three fighting to get to the front of a packed field. The senior from Indianola, Iowa received All-America honors for the fourth time in track and field. She placed fifth in the indoor 800 as a freshman in 2008, then took fifth in the outdoor 1500 in 2009 and second in 2010. She was also an All-American in cross country in 2010.
