Storm swimmers earn three golds at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Simpson College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at Coe on Friday for their last event before the Liberal Arts Championships.

Senior Madison DePover claimed two first-place finishes to score 18 of the team's 60 points during the meet. DePover ended with a time of 13:20.64 in the 1000-yard freestyle before clocking 3:04.32 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Senior Katie Cardoza ended second in the 1000-yard freestyle behind DePover. Cardoza grabbed another runner-up placing, this time coming in the 200-yard freestyle.

Junior Alyssa Harris was second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in the 400-yard individual medley.

Senior Blake Kakacek finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in the 200-yard backstroke for eight team points.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Caroline Oberg, Katie Oosterhuis, Cardoza and DePover tallied first. The quartet of Harris, Oberg, Oosterhuis and Prendergast produced a second-place nod in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Storm take a few weeks off to prepare for the Liberal Arts Championships from Feb. 18-20. Action will take place in Cedar Rapids.
