Ackerman story to re-air on NBC's Today Show

INDIANOLA, Iowa - NBC's Today Show will re-air a story on Simpson wrestling great and 2001 national champion, Nick Ackerman on Thursday, May 19.

Ackerman won the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship at 174 pounds in 2001 without the use of his legs below the knees. He had his legs amputated when he was 18 months old due to a bout with bacterial meningitis.

In the championship, Ackerman defeated defending national champion Nick Slack of Augsburg, who entered the match riding a 60-match win streak. His championship win was voted the No. 1 Most Dramatic Championship Victory in NCAA history by NCAA Champion Magazine in 2008.

Today, Ackerman manufactures prosthetics.

The Today Show airs locally from 7-11 a.m. on WHO Channel 13. Check your local listings for show times in your area.
