Women’s golf finishes ninth at Sail Classic Open
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Storm women's golf team dropped 13 strokes from their day one score but it couldn't move up in the ranks as they finished ninth of 12 teams at the Sail Classic Open.
Simpson shot a combined 361 between six golfers on the day, shooting a 735 after 36 holes on the par-72, 5,877 yard Pheasant Ridge Golf Course for the weekend. Wartburg finished first, shooting 45 over par, for a total of 621. The Knights finished 14 strokes better than second place Grinnell.
Grinnell had the best individual performance on the weekend though, as Vrishali Sinha scored a 147, only three over par for the course.
Simpson sophomore Courtney Mabeus put up scores of 88 and 87, respectively, to finish a team-best 31 over par, good for tied for 27th in the field of 67.
Junior Coltyn Hunter improved three places after day two, shooting a 90 on Saturday, one shot better than her first round score as she finished tied for 37th.
Lydia Martin shot a 91 on back-to-back days, finishing tied for 43rd, Kelsa Berkland and Naddie Berkley tied for 50th as they shot a 191 respectively. Kelsey Van Veen rounded out Simpson's squad with a 196 as she placed 54th.
The women's golf team will be back on the links for day one of two at the Wartburg Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Centennial Golf Club in Waverly.
