Women's golf takes 3rd at Mount Mercy
MARION, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney tied for tenth and the Simpson women's golf team placed third of eleven teams at the Mount Mercy Spring Invitational held at Hunters Ridge Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
Simpson finished the weekend with a team score of 721, behind tournament champion Truman State (678) and Grand View (698). Ashford (736) and Wartburg (738) rounded out the top five.
Gaffney fired an 86 on Saturday and came back with a 90 on Sunday for a two-round total of 176, just three strokes out of a top-five finish. Jessica Tomash (Truman State) ran away with medalist honors, shooting a 163 (83-80).
Stacy Bergeson and Jessica Lerdal each carded 180 on the weekend to produce top-20 finishes, as the duo tied for 16th. Bergeson shot 90 each day and Lerdal picked up two strokes on Sunday (91-89).
Kiley Wermersen (92-93-185) tied for 22nd, Jamie Knock (102-98-200) tied for 45th and Molly Hill (107-110-217) placed 52nd.
Simpson closes the spring season at the Central Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella.
