Simpson fifth after second round at IIAC Championship
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney carded a 10-over 82 to position herself two strokes off the pace and Simpson is in fifth place at the midway point of the Iowa Conference Women's Golf Championship.
Gaffney led the pack after her 72 on Friday, but Pheasant Ridge Golf Course wasn't as kind to the senior or her teammates on Saturday. Gaffney (72-82-154) is now tied for third with Wartburg's Samantha Heinen, who turned in the low score of the day with a 75.
Abby Potts of Loras (75-77-152) and Kelsi Sawatzky of Wartburg (74-78-152) are tied for the lead.
As a team, the Storm dipped from third to fifth after Saturday's 347. Wartburg leads the field with 619, followed by Luther (635), Central (663), Loras (665) and Simpson (675). Coe (713) is sixth, followed by Dubuque (715) and Buena Vista (736).
Stacy Bergeson (76-84-160) finds herself just outside of the top ten after two round and is currently in a three-way tie for 11th.
Kiley Wermersen stayed steady, following up Friday's 91 with another 91. At 182, she is tied for 29th.
Molly Hill (94-90-184) improved four strokes on Saturday. She and teammate Jessica Lerdal (89-95-184) are tied for 31st.
The Championship concludes October 5-6 with 36 holes at Bos Landen Golf Club near Pella. Friday's round begins at 9 a.m. with teams paired by their 36-hole team scores. Dubuque and Buena Vista will tee off in the first wave followed by Loras, Simpson and Coe in the second wave. The top three teams on the leaderboard -- Wartburg, Luther and Central -- will go off in the third and final wave.
