Storm take third at Mount Mercy
MARION, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney put forth a steady performance as the Simpson women's golf team placed third of nine teams at Mount Mercy's Mustang Fall Classic, held last weekend at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
As a team, Simpson finished at 714 (355, 359), nine strokes behind second-place Agustana (Ill.). Grinnell won the tournament, shooting 698 (355, 343).
Gaffney carded an 88 on Saturday and an 87 on Sunday, closing the weekend tied for fourth with 175.
Stacy Bergeson led Simpson after the first day of the tournament after shooting an 86. She fired a 93 in the second round, closing the weekend at 179, tied for 12th.
Jessica Lerdal hung with Bergeson, joining her in the tie for 12th after shooting 90 and 89.
Molly Hill shot 183 (91, 92) to tie for 19th and Kiley Wermersen placed 23rd with a 186 (95, 91).
Simpson begins the Iowa Conference Championship this weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The first 36 holes take place at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, with round one beginning on Friday, Sept. 28 and round two on Saturday.
The final two rounds of the 72-hole tournament will be held Oct. 5-6 at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, Iowa.
