Strom drop pair to Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Maggie Long and Madison Rasmusson kept Central's bats at bay but the offense couldn't muster enough run support as the Simpson softball team dropped a doubleheader to the 14th-ranked Dutch 2-1 and 4-0 on Saturday at Simpson Softball Complex.

The Storm (5-19, 0-6 Iowa Conference) came up with just five hits in two games, spoiling solid outings by Long and Rasmusson. Long allowed just one earned run off four hits in the opener while Rasmusson surrendered two earned runs off eight hits in the nightcap.

Emily Wilson drove in the go-ahead run on sacrifice fly in the fifth inning of game one for the Dutch (22-4, 4-0), who beat Simpson for the sixth straight time. Karly Olson held Simpson to two hits, giving up an unearned run in the fourth when Ashley Allen reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1.

Olson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Mariah Fritz tossed a three-hit shutout in game two. Central held a 2-0 lead until the seventh when Olson hit a two-RBI single to left.

Jordan Williamson led off the second inning with a single but was stranded. Allen got a two-out base hit in the sixth and Rasmusson beat out an infield single with two outs in the seventh.

Rasmusson remained in the game after taking a line drive off her right leg in the sixth inning.
