Storm suffer pair of one-run losses in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Simpson softball team is still in search of its first win at the Rebel Spring Games after a pair of one-run losses on Sunday at Osceola County Softball Complex. The Storm lost to Bluffton 5-4 to start the day before going hitless in a 1-0 loss to DeSales.

The speedy Kaleigh Snyder scored the game-tying run on a three-base error in the top of the seventh but Brittany Huff hit a walk-off single to spoil the Storm's comeback. Snyder finished with three runs and two stolen bases and Brooke Brommel had two hits to lead Simpson.

Taylor Davis' RBI double gave Simpson a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Bluffton took a 2-1 lead with runs in the second and third. Brianna Chaplin's sacrifice fly brought in the game-tying run in the fifth, but Huff made it 4-2 with a two-RBI single in the home half. Relief pitcher Maggie Long singled to lead off the seventh and scored on Snyder's sacrifice bunt and the subsequent throwing error.

Long suffered the loss in relief of Madison Rasmusson. Rasmusson gave up seven hits and four runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 innings. Long allowed four hits over the final two frames.

Hailey Warner tossed a no-hitter and Madeline Nasir drove in the game's only run on a single in the first for the Bulldogs.

The Storm managed just three walks in the game, spoiling a solid outing by Arianna Kim in the circle. Kim scattered seven hits and a walk while striking out four in the complete-game loss.
