Softball team, individuals earn academic awards
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson softball team earned academic awards from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in 2014, as the Storm earned All-Academic Team accolades and 14 individuals took home All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
The Storm maintained a 3.44 overall GPA in the 2013-14 season, the highest in the Iowa Conference. They earned the 18th best average in Division III.
Fourteen members of the team also earned individual All-America Scholar Athlete accolades, the highest number in the IIAC. To earn the award, players must earn a 3.50 GPA or higher throughout the year.
Individuals receiving the award were Kylie Van Houten, Katy Lazenby, Kaitlin McAllister, Tori Haag, Anna Sherry, Alex Curley, Abbie Van Vleet, Grace Hall, Emma Negrete, Kinsey Van Houten, Alexa Gilmore, Emily Macki, Diana Lichty, and Paige Lammers.
