Storm receiving votes in preseason softball poll
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson softball team is receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Preseason Top 25 Poll.
Simpson received four votes in the initial poll, released Jan. 28. Three other Iowa Conference schools are included, as Central leads the pack (t-12), followed by Luther (18) and Coe (receiving five votes). Two-time defending national champion Tufts is No. 1, receiving all eight first place votes.
The Storm return five starting position players and two pitchers from last year's team that went 27-15 and tied for second in the Iowa Conference. Long-time head coach Henry Christowski welcomes back all three of last year's all-conference performers in pitcher/designated player Abbie Van Vleet, catcher Tori Haag and first baseman Hailey Jensen.
Simpson last appeared in the NFCA Top 25 Poll on May 1, 2013 at No. 24. The Storm climbed as high as No. 12 that season, finishing the year 29-10.
The season begins Feb. 28 at the Superior Dome Tournament in Marquette, Mich. View Schedule
