Pochop scores twice in wild win

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Garrett Pochop scored two goals, Colin Robinson had two assists and the Simpson men's soccer team survived a wild, 4-3 shootout win against Wis.-Superior on Saturday.

The two teams combined for 28 shots, 18 shots on goal, nine corner kicks and eight cards.

The Storm (3-1) got out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals by Pochop, who turned in his second, two-goal game of the season. Darius Doswell made it a three-goal lead when he found the back of the net in the 11th minute, and it looked like Simpson would cruise.

The Yellowjackets (0-4) managed to stay in it with two goals before halftime, including an own-goal by the Storm. Ryan Linsmayer added a tally in the 29th minute, the first goal of the season for Superior scored by one of its own players.

Collin Hemann gave Simpson an insurance goal in the 60th minute on Robinson's second assist of the game. David Villani scored for Superior with less than two minutes to play for the final margin.

Chris Harris made four saves in goal for the Storm while Yellowjacket keepers combined for seven saves.

Up next: Simpson closes the weekend Sunday against Concordia-Moorhead. Kickoff is set for Noon.
