Upset bid falls short against Grand View

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Jeremy Reinert scored Simpson's only goal of the game of a penalty kick in the first half as Grand View held on for a 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Buxton Stadium.

The ninth-ranked team in NAIA, the Vikings (6-0) played a man down for more than 75 minutes after Danny Gillespie-O'Neill received a red card for a handball inside the penalty box in the 15th minute.

Gillespie-O'Neill's handball saved what would have been a goal for Reinert, who took advantage of an empty net after playing a deflection off the goalkeeper. Reinert made good on the ensuing penalty kick, making the score 2-1.

Grand View got on the board when its two leading goal scorers got involved early in the contest.

George Hunt scored the game's first goal in the fourth minute, making good on a clean look from 10 yards out. Reining Midwest Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week Luis Heitor-Piffer made it a two-goal difference when he took Jonny Macadam's corner kick and found the back of the net from seven yards out.

The Storm (2-3) had a handful of chances, putting seven of their 11 shots on goal. Reinert put four shots on goal and Mark Lahart added two.

Luke Aronow went the distance between the posts for Simpson, making 10 saves. Alex Frank picked up the win for Grand View, making four saves in his 53 minutes.

Simpson returns to action Saturday, Sept. 17 when it hosts Northwestern (Iowa) in a 4 p.m. kickoff from Buxton Stadium.
