Early goals undo Storm against Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel found the back of the net two times in the first eight minutes and went on for a 3-1 win over Simpson on Friday evening.

Three different players scored for the Royals (4-0), who outshot Simpson 19-8 and led 3-0 by the 56th minute.

"Today's result was a combination of playing an opponent who's playing good soccer right now and getting off the bus sluggish and not prepared to play," Simpson head coach Rick Isaacson said. "We didn't match their intensity or energy. Right away they took the momentum."

David Kim got the scoring started for Bethel in the fifth minute when he converted a penalty kick. Just over two minutes later, Kolten Fischer made the score 2-0, a margin which held until intermission. Brent Neihart added the third goal 10 minutes into the second frame.

Mike Flanagan found Mark Lahart in the 66th minute, giving the Storm (1-2) their only goal of the contest. The loss is the second in a row.

Isaacson saw more energy out of his team in the second half, but the result was all but final.

"We'll learn from [today] and grow from it," Isaacson said. "It should open our eyes. We were comfortable with our progess to this point, but this should serve as a wake up call to
let us know we need to get back to work and keep improving."

Luke Aronow took the loss between the posts, making five stops in his 90 minutes. Leif Sundberg made four saves in the win.

Simpson looks to even its record tomorrow when it takes on Crown in a 4 p.m. kickoff.
