Men’s golf in 12th after first round at Midwest Region Classic
GALENA, Ill. — Andrew Lallier fired an opening-round 74 to lead the Simpson men's golf team at the opening round of the Midwest Region Classic from the Eagle Ridge North Course on Friday. The Storm are in 12th place of 35 teams.
Simpson shot 319 in the opening round, two back of 11th-place Dubuque and 14 behind round one leader Carthage. The Storm are one stroke in front of Loras.
Lallier shot 2-over — the lowest round by a Storm golfer this fall — to put himself in a three-way tie for seventh place. He finds himself in contention, just two behind leaders Zach Hentrich (Edgewood), Joe Fewer (Luther) and Joe Vath (Carthage) in the field of 173 golfers.
The rest of the Storm lineup shot in the 80s, led by Ben Butler (81). Korbin Sesker and Nick Hartman fired opening-round 82s and Blake Bender shot 84.
