Hartman leads Storm to sixth at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa — Nick Hartman carded a 76 in Saturday's final round to place third and the Simpson men's golf team placed sixth of 12 teams at the Wartburg Spring Invitational from Prairie Links Golf Course.

In second after Friday's first round, the Storm shot 23 strokes worse on Saturday to fall to sixth. Simpson shot 304 in the first round and 327 to close the tournament.

Hartman fired a career-best 72 in the opening round before closing with a 76, giving the junior the first, top-five finish of his career. He finished just one shy out of first, behind Kirkwood duo Mac Thrune and Louis Flynn. Hartman tied with Kirkwood's JD Goodfellow at 4-over 148, but took third due to the tiebreaker.

Hartman made a team-high six birdies on the weekend.

Reid Cobb shot 158 to tie for 27th, Korbin Sesker shot 161 to tie for 36th and Andrew Lallier carded a 164 to tie for 39th. Blake Bender shot 167 to round out the varsity finishers while Ben Butler (169) and Nick Baumhover (176) competed as individuals.

Up next
Simpson hosts its own Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11. The first round gets underway at 11 a.m. from Indianola Country Club on Monday and concludes with a 9 a.m. start at The Legacy Golf Course in Norwalk on Tuesday.
