Gibb named NCAA DIII statistical champion

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Andrew Gibb of the Simpson men's basketball team was named the NCAA Division III statistical champion in free throw percentage after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

Gibb made 111 of his 119 free throws on the year, including a stretch of 61 consecutive makes. Gibb's streak lasted from the conference-opening win against Coe on Dec. 3 until Feb. 11. His percentage of 93.3 percent was the best in the country by a whole percentage point, beating out Marcus Stubbs of Marymount (VA) and Myles Rasnick of Maryville (TN).

A transfer from Briar Cliff, Gibb was even more impressive from the charity stripe in conference play, only missing three of 61 attempts for a mark of 95.1 percent. The most free throws Gibb made in a game on the year was 10 in the non-conference home win over Knox. The most free throws Gibb made in a game without missing was eight, which he completed in three separate games.

Gibb had a strong season overall for the Storm in his debut campaign. The Fort Dodge, Iowa native was named to the American Rivers Conference honorable mention team after starting all 24 games for the Storm. Gibb was the team's second leading scorer, averaging 14.7 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting from the field. The junior guard also led the team in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game.

In addition to leading in free throw percentage, Gibb also ranked in the top 10 in the conference in total rebounds (sixth), field goal percentage (ninth), minutes per game (ninth), and scoring per game (10th).
