ST. PETER, Minn. – Brian Jacobs and Isaac Tapp scored 17 points apiece and Gustavus Adolphus beat the Simpson men's basketball team 83-68 in the season opener on Friday night.
Peter Kruize added 16 off the bench for the Gusties (1-0), who shot better than 62 percent from the field.
Charles Swain tied a game-high with 17 points and Austin Hennings scored 16 and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Storm (0-1).
A Jordan Dick jumper gave Gustavus a 4-2 lead and the Gusties never trailed the rest of the way. Gustavus led 39-29 at the half.
Chad Gutschenritter added 12 points and three steals for the Storm.
Simpson faces another Minnesota Conference foe on Saturday when it faces Augsburg at 7:30 p.m.
