Barragan named IIAC Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson men's basketball player Zack Barragan earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week and Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 15, the conference office announced Monday.

Barragan, a senior shooting guard from Ankeny, Iowa, scored 27 points in the Storm's 68-64 win at Buena Vista on Jan. 11. He went 10 of 15 from the floor including a career-high seven 3-pointers, going 7 of 9 from beyond the arc. The outburst made Barragan's Simpson's career 3-point leader, giving him 174 heading into Monday night's game. He surpassed the 171 3-pointers made by Jason Parkinson from 2003-07.

Barragan leads the team and ranks second in the conference in scoring at 17.1 points per game. His 49 3-pointers are also second in the league.

The Storm (6-9, 3-4 Iowa Conference) take on Loras in Dubuque on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
