Simpson comes up empty in Pella

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team dropped a pair of games to Central on Sunday as the Dutch earned a slim 3-1 decision in the opener before completing the series sweep with an 8-3 victory in the finale.

In the first game, Central took a quick 2-0 lead via a two-run double by Chase Martin in the bottom of the first inning. The Storm (11-10, 1-4 A-R-C) trimmed the lead in half two periods later as Ian Baldwin came around to score on Brady Held's single to left field, but Simpson did not get a runner past second the remainder of the game.

The Dutch (10-9, 4-4 A-R-C) were the first to score in the second game as well as they plated three in the third. Baldwin scored on a passed ball in the fifth to get Simpson on the board before Central extended its advantage to 7-1 with four runs on two hits in the fifth. Baldwin drove in the Storm's final two runs of the day with his second triple of the season in the sixth.

Designated hitter Ty Cowley registered his third straight multi-hit game with a pair of singles in the first and fifth innings of game one. He was hit by a pitch in the second game and has now reached base safely in 16 consecutive games.
