Simpson overpowered by St. Olaf in series finale

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Sam Lavin struck out seven batters in three innings and tallied five RBIs on offense as St. Olaf beat the Simpson College baseball team 15-2 in seven innings in the series finale Sunday afternoon. 

Four of Lavin's RBIs came on a grand slam in a 10-run sixth inning which also included an RBI triple by Breckin Hadley and an RBI double by Jack Alley. St. Olaf (2-1) pounded out eight hits in the frame and 15 overall, including a three-run double by Matthew Kulesa in the second which helped stretch the visitors' early lead to 5-0.

Simpson scored one run in the third and another in the fourth. Bennett Wadstrom scored on Lucas Juhl's base hit to right center for the first run of the day and then drew a bases-loaded walk his next at-bat, scoring Matthew Marquez who led the Storm (1-5) offensively with two doubles.

Up Next
The Storm will make their way to Florida to play seven games at the RussMatt Invitational. Simpson will start the trip with a doubleheader against Ohio Northern on March 12 in Auburndale.
