Simpson opens Steven Johnson Fitness Center
The new, $6 million renovation to the athletic complex highlighted by the Steven Johnson Fitness Center opened in January, 2014. A dedication ceremony was held Feb. 7, as the entire Simpson College community gathered to celebrate a landmark event in the school's history.

Nelson's MVP season
Senior quarterback Taylor Nelson put together one of the greatest seasons in Simpson history in 2013, accounting for a school-record 34 touchdowns while leading Simpson to a 7-3 record. He became just the sixth player in Simpson history to be named conference MVP.

White performs hat trick
Junior men's soccer player Mitchell White scored three goals in Simpson's 5-1 win over Grinnell on Wednesday, Sept. 18, becoming just the sixth player in school history to record multiple hat tricks in a career. He closed the season two goals shy of Simpson's career record.

Gaffney, Bergeson close careers in style
Senior women's golfers Jennifer Gaffney and Stacy Bergeson ended their careers with all-conference efforts at the IIAC Championships. Gaffney earned her third all-conference honor by placing sixth and Bergeson earned her second by placing ninth.

Haag "shines" against Wartburg
A day after suffering an injury to her eye in practice, sophomore softball player Tori Haag convinced her coach to let her out of position. Normally a catcher, Haag played right field and went a combined 7-for-9 in the Storm's doubleheader sweep, black eye and all. She had a home run, three doubles and seven RBIs and hit the game-winning double in game two.

Vogel wins pair of IIAC sprint titles
Senior sprinter Brad Vogel took home conference championships in the 55-meter dash indoors and the 200-meter dash outdoors after a handful of near-misses earlier in his career.

Juilfs, Lindenman earn all-conference honors
The men's golf duo of Conner Juilfs and Trent Lindenman become the first Simpson duo to earn all-conference honors since 2007.

Fleshner goes to nationals
After narrowly missing the cut in 2013 and indoors in 2014, junior hurdler Bayley Fleshner qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter hurdles for the first time in 2014. She finished 20th overall.

Pennings etches name into record books
Junior baseball player Matt Pennings became Simpson's career saves leader when he earned the ninth of his career in a 7-6 win over second-seeded Wartburg in the IIAC Tournament. A day after throwing 103 pitches in a loss, Pennings put himself in the game in the ninth and retired the Knights in order.

Volleyball opens season strong
A year after enduring a 12-22 campaign, the upstart Storm rattled off 14 wins in their first 17 games in 2013, culuminating with a come-from-behind four-set win over Central on homecoming week.

Men's soccer opens 2013 on a tear
The men's soccer team set a school record by going undefeated in its first nine games of 2013, opening the season 7-0-2. The last win in the streak came on Sept. 28 when Tyler Neumann's golden goal gave the Storm a 2-1 win over Central.

Football team keeps fans on the edge of their seats
The 2014 football season certainly didn't lack for excitement. The Storm won five games with scores in the fourth quarter or overtime, including three in the final minute. Simpson beat UW-River Falls on a quarterback sneak with 22 seconds left, Coe on a 23-yard touchdown pass in the second overtime and Dubuque on a 26-yard touchdown pass with 33 seconds left.

Women's basketball beats Dubuque at the buzzer
Freshman post Markayla Mahr hit a 16-foot jumper as time expired to give Simpson a 55-54 win at Dubuque on Jan. 29. More known for her defense than her offense, Mahr caught the inbound pass with just over 1 second remaining and Simpson trailing 54-53.

Swimming teams set 17 school records at Liberal Arts Championships
First-year head coach Tom Caccia and the Storm made waves at the 2014 Liberal Arts Championships, highlighted by All-Championship performances by Chrisina Amburgy and Kyle McKim.

Softball knocks off three, top-25 foes
Playing in one of the most challenging conferences - and regions - in the nation, Simpson made a habit out of knocking off top-25 teams in 2014. Simpson split doubleheaders with No. 23 Washington (Mo.), No. 5 Luther and No. 12 Central throughout the season.

Men's tennis qualifies for IIAC Tournament
For the first time since 2007, the men's tennis team had a chance to compete in the Iowa Conference Team Tournament. Getting in with the No. 6 seed, the Storm beat Buena Vista in the fifth-place match. Simpson went 8-13, the program's best record since 2009.
