Storm cruise to 7-2 win over North Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team took 5 of 6 singles matches and 2 of 3 doubles matches to beat North Central (Minn.) 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Buxton Tennis Complex.

Emily King, Megan Grubb, Danielle Bates, Sarah Barry and Kathryn Hays all scored wins in the singles competition. Barry's match at No. 4 was the closest, as she edged Nicole Swanson 6-1, 3-6, 10-6.

The team of King and Grubb rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while the team of Barry and Hays won 8-3 at the No. 3 spot.

Missing two regular pieces to the lineup, the Storm thrived despite playing in unfamiliar spots. The freshmen in particular—King and Grubb—stepped up and played well.

"Our freshmen held strong in the top singles and doubles spots and are showing a lot of growth since the fall," head coach Faith Bliss said.

With her singles win, King improved to a team-best 10-8 on the season. She is 2-0 at No. 1 and 6-5 at No. 2.
