Women’s tennis knocks off Dubuque in Saturday split

INDIANOLA/URBANDALE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team closed Saturday's American Rivers Conference doubleheader with a 5-4 win over Dubuque at Lifetime Athletic in Urbandale. Simpson started the day with a 6-3 setback to Loras at Buxton Tennis Complex.

The Dubuque match was moved to the indoor facility in Urbandale due to wet, chilly conditions in Central Iowa.

With the split, the Storm move to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the American Rivers.

Kayla Reusche and Emily King contributed six of the Storm's eight wins on the day, as both went unbeaten in singles while teaming up to go 2-0 in doubles.

Reusche beat Dubuque's A. Palacios-Quinonez 6-3, 6-1 and Loras' Audrey Hinz 6-3, 7-5 to improve to 4-2 in A-R-C while extending her winning streak to three. King beat Dubuque's Naomi Amani 6-0, 6-1 and Loras' Meghann Long 6-1, 6-0 to improve to a team-best 7-5 on the year. Like Reusche, she is 4-2 in A-R-C and has also won three in a row.

The duo took a pair of 8-6 decisions in doubles, the Storm's only doubles wins on the day.

Despite losing two of three in doubles against the Spartans, Simpson took four singles matches en-route to the win. In addition to wins from Reusche and King, Megan Grubb beat Hailey Wang 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot and Danielle Bates defeated Kyra Jernigan 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
