Women’s tennis beats NWU in IIAC opener

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Simpson women's tennis team opened the Iowa Conference schedule in style with an 8-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday.

The Storm (3-1, 1-0 IIAC) swept singles play and took 2 of 3 in doubles to win their third straight after losing their first match of the season.

Kelli Greiner came back to beat Bridget McKeegan 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 at the No. 1 spot, the only match that went to the third set. Kayla Reusche beat Torey Kogel 6-2, 6-1, Cassidy Bierbrodt beat Madi Hinshaw 6-2, 6-1, Sidney Griffith beat Jaime Bridges 6-1, 6-3, Liz Nimmo beat Victoria Van De Veer 6-4, 7-5 and Kelly Kuebler beat Kelsie Dewey 6-1, 6-1. 

Greiner and Reusche edged McKeegan and Kogel 8-6 in No. 1 doubles and the team of Nimmo and Kuebler topped Dewey and Hinshaw 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Up next: Simpson opens the home schedule Saturday, Sept. 10 when it hosts Coe and Bethany Lutheran at Buxton Tennis Complex. The Coe match is set to start at 9:30 a.m. while the Bethany Lutheran contest will get underway at 4.
