Storm close season with setback against St. Mary

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson women's tennis team closed the 2016-17 season Sunday with an 8-1 loss to St. Mary (Neb.) at Buxton Tennis Complex.

The Storm (5-12-1) got their lone win at No. 3 doubles as the duo of Liz Nimmo and Kelly Kuebler defeated Nora Staudenmaier and Carly Bindle 8-2. 

Simpson lost a pair of close matches in the singles competition. At No. 4, Raven Palmer edged Megan Bradley 6-3, 7-6 (4) while Nimmo fell in a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles to Miriam Adriana 6-2, 1-6, 10-3. 

Nimmo and Kayla Reusche, both sophomores, closed the season tied for the team lead with seven singles wins apiece. Nimmo went 7-11 on the year while Reusche -- a member of the softball team who only competed during the fall season-- went 7-9. 

Nimmo and Kelly Kuebler were the most successful doubles team, going 6-7 at the No. 3 spot. Reusche and Kelli Greiner went 5-9 in doubles, including 5-8 at the No. 1 position. 

Seniors Dani Dawson, Kelli Greiner and Sidney Griffith saw their careers come to a close.
