Women's tennis prevails against Morningside

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson women's tennis team got strong play in doubles on the way to a 5-4 win over Morningside on Saturday.

The Storm (4-4, 1-2 Iowa Conference) started the day with a 9-0 loss to IIAC stalwart Coe, but came back with an exciting win over the Mustangs.

Simpson needed tiebreakers to win the first two doubles matches before getting another close win in the third. The team of Michelle Hartmann and Kelli Greiner beat Katie Hanson and Kathryn Jones 9-8 (7-3) at No. 1 doubles while Kelli Ehrhardt and Jill Arduser outlasted Cassie Stanek and Megan Carlson 9-8 (7-4) at No. 2. At No. 3, Megan Bradley and Cassidy Bierbrodt beat Megan Solberg and Natasha Hongsermeier 8-5.

The Storm needed each one of their doubles wins. 

Morningside won the first three singles matches before Bradley beat Solberg 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4. Bierbrodt came up with the clinching decision at No. 6, beating Hongsermeier 7-5, 6-1.

Simpson goes to Cornell on Wednesday, Sept. 17 for a non-conference meeting with the Rams.
