Three remain in contention at IIAC Women’s Tennis Tournament

PELLA, Iowa – Kelli Ehrhardt advanced to the semifinals in Flight B Singles and the doubles team of Michelle Hartmann and Kelli Greiner remains alive in Flight B for Simpson after the first day of the 2014 Iowa Conference Women's Tennis Individual Tournament on Friday.

The first day of the tournament - hosted by Central - was predicated by cold temperatures and windy conditions.

Entering the tournament with a team-high seven wins in singles, Ehrhardt cruised to the semifinals in Flight B with wins over Sam Pietruszynski of Loras (8-1) and Kari Grindberg of Central (6-3, 6-2). The junor from Osceola, Iowa won by walkover against Tasha Nelson (Buena Vista) 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

The No. 5 seed in the bracket, Ehrhardt will face top seeded Lizzie Rucker of Wartburg in Saturday's semifinal. The winner will play the winner of the other semifinal between Hailey Johnson (Luther) and Marissa Buresh (Wartburg).

In doubles action, the team of Hartmann and Greiner received a bye in the first round before earning an 8-6 win over Maurer and White of Coe. Hartmann and Greiner will take on the Wartburg side of Rucker and Friedly in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
