Kelli duo propels Simpson to first win

DUBUQUE, Iowa – On a hot and muggy afternoon the Simpson women's tennis team had to tough out a convincing win over the University of Dubuque by the score of 6-3 after opening their doubleheader with a narrow 4-5 loss to Loras.

Kelli Ehrhardt and Kelli Greiner earned their first win of the day, 8-2, over Caroline Rainey and Carrie Crabill in what turned out to be a back-and-forth affair with Loras. Simpson would drop the final doubles match and the first two singles contests before rebounding with a trio of wins by Ehrhardt (6-1, 6-1 over Crabill), Greiner (6-1, 6-2 over Rainey), and Krista Rogers (7-6, 6-2 over Rebecca Weglarz). It wasn't meant to be as they fell in the final set to give Loras the win, 5-4.

Simpson would bounce back and pick up its first victory of the season via a total team effort as they earned four singles and two doubles wins. Leading the charge for the Storm was the trio of Ehrhardt, Greiner, and Michelle Hartmann who each earned two victories apiece. The duo of Ehrhardt and Greiner once again overwhelmed their doubles counterparts, Alexandra Dixon and Janine Wegner, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Ehrhardt would follow with a hard-fought, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Ashley Schlueter in No. 3 singles while No. 4 Greiner eased her way into victory lane with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Alexandra Dixon.

Hartmann got off to a swift start with her partner-in-crime, Schemmel, as they defeated Chelsea Borden and Ashley Schlueter, 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. She then topped Stephanie LoCasto, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 2 singles slot. Garnering the sixth and final point for the Storm was No. 5 Rogers as she triumphed over Aio Karino, 7-5, 6-2.
