Women's tennis drops 5-4 contest to Morningside
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson and Morningside women's tennis teams split the singles competition but Morningside started the day by taking two of three doubles matches for a 5-4 win on Saturday.
Kelli Ehrhardt and Kelli Greiner picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, and added a win at No. 2 doubles to lead the Storm (1-8).
Ehrhardt took a hard-fought decision from Amanda Przymus, coming back to win the second set and the super tiebreaker 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-6. Greiner had an easier time with Megan Solberg, coasting to the 6-1, 6-1 win. Krista Rogers gave Simpson its other singles win, topping Kathryn Jones 6-2, 6-4 at the fifth spot.
Ehrhardt had another long match in doubles, as she and Greiner outlasted the team of Audri Swisher and Solberg, 9-8 (7-5) at the second position.
The Storm's best chance to swing that match in their favor came at No. 3 doubles, where Rogers and Sidney Griffith suffered a narrow, 8-5 setback to Jones and Megan Carlson.
Simpson will look for its second Iowa Conference win of the season when it travels to Pella to face Central on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
