Trio of women’s golfers named All-American Scholars

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson women's golfers Madison Hance, Courtney Mabeus and Kelsey Poppe earned Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar honors for their work in the classroom during the 2016-17 season.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 required for inclusion. A total of 952 golfers across all divisions were recognized with the prestigious honor.

A freshman from Creston, Iowa, Hance averaged 93.6 per round in her rookie season. Her best round came at the season-ending Mike "Fluff" Cowan Invitational, where she shot 87.

A junior from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Mabeus earned the All-American Scholar award for the second year in a row. She averaged a career-best 91.8 per round in 2016-17, shooting a season-low 85 twice.

A freshman from Ionia, Iowa, Poppe averaged 101.8 per round. She carded a season-low 95 at the season-opening Sail Classic in September.
