Women’s golf takes third at Graceland behind Martin, Berkland

LAMONI, Iowa - The Simpson women's golf team got solid rounds from Lydia Martin and Kelsa Berkland to take third at the Graceland Invitational, held Saturday, Sept. 17 at Lamoni Golf and Country Club.

The duo of Martin and Berkland finished just one stroke apart at the par-72 layout. Martin tied for 11th with an 87 while Berkland tied for 13th with an 88.

Simpson shot 357 as a team at the one-day tournament, behind champion William Penn (333) and Missouri Valley (342). 

Haley Booton and Madison Hance tied for 17th after shooting identical 91s and Courtney Mabeus carded a 94 to tie for 22nd.

Kelsey Poppe led Simpson's second squad, shooting 100 to to place 29th. Cassady Carmichael (31st, 102), Lexi Wagner (t32nd, 103), Kelsey Van Veen (35th, 105) and Samantha Sweet (37th, 111) rounded out Simpson's golfers.

The Storm go to the Clarke Invitational in Galena, Ill. this weekend, Sept. 24-25. The Saturday-Sunday tournament will take place at Eagle Ridge, with Saturday's start time set for 11 a.m. and Sunday's set for 9 a.m.
