Women’s golf takes fifth at IIAC Championship

WAVERLY, Iowa — Haley Booton carded a final-round 89 and the Simpson women's golf team took fifth place at the Iowa Conference Championship, which concluded Saturday at Prairie Links Golf Course.

Simpson finished with 1,427 strokes, just four behind Nebraska Wesleyan who came back after Simpson took a lead following the third round. Central won the individual title by eight strokes over Wartburg. Wartburg's Rochelle Beardsley won individual medalist honors.

Competing in her first IIAC Championship, Booton recorded three sub-90 rounds to lead the Storm. She finished with 353 strokes, tied for 18th in the field of 41 finishers. The freshman shot a 94 in the third round at the 5,866 yard-layout at Prairie Links.

Courtney Mabeus recovered from her worst round of the tournament — a 98 on Friday — to shoot a team-low 85 in Saturday's final round. She finished two strokes behind Booton in 20th place.

Madison Hance and Lydia Martin each carded identical 92s in the final round to finish tied for 23rd. Kelsa Berkland shot a 100 to finish tied for 26th.
