Storm stumble down the stretch, fall to Lebanon Valley 76-75

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Veronica Venezia came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points, Caroline Scarff made the game-winning layup with 37 seconds left and Lebanon Valley came back to beat the Simpson women's basketball team 76-75 Wednesday at the Daytona Beach Shootout.

Anne Lehr added 18 points and Becky Evans had nine assists for the Dutchmen (8-4), who trailed by as many as 13 points before rallying in the fourth quarter to win the second-ever meeting between the teams.

Simpson led 71-63 on Ellen Gallagher's three-point play with 3:14 left in the fourth quarter, but Lebanon Valley finished the game on a 13-4 run. Scarff's layup put the Dutchmen ahead 73-72, Becky Evans made a pair of free throws with 7 seconds left to make it 75-72 and Morgan Bamberger made 1 of 2 at the line to seal the win with 3 seconds left.

Following Gallagher's three-point play, Simpson turned it over three times over the next seven possessions and went 0-for-3 from the field before Janey Botkins hit a 3 as time expired.

Noreen Morrow scored 14 points, Gallagher added 11 off the bench and Jenna Taylor had nine and 12 rebounds for the Storm (7-4).

Simpson has now lost four games this season by a combined nine points.

Simpson led 47-38 at halftime behind Morrow's 12 points. Kali Rasmussen's 3-pointer with 2:03 to play in the second quarter capped a 7-2 spurt and gave the Storm its largest lead at 47-34.
