Storm roll Buena Vista for IIAC win
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's tennis team tallied eight wins in a convincing Iowa Conference victory over Buena Vista on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Buxton Tennis Complex.
The Storm (7-11, 1-4) took advantage of one of the few nice days this spring to snap an eight-match losing streak. Simpson started the match by outscoring Buena Vista 24-2 in doubles and it was smooth sailing from there.
"It was nice to get a 3-0 lead in doubles," head coach Matt Price said. "It takes a little pressure off going into singles."
Sam Dykstra and Zach Nelson kept pace with each other atop Simpson's win leaders. Dykstra beat John Foss 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Nelson beat Aaron Pluym 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 as each picked up a seventh win on the season. Both stand at 7-11 in singles.
Adam Wieser, Matt Turnley and Reade Reiter added singles win to help the Storm close out the match.
After moving Sunday's match with Nebraska Wesleyan to Aspen Athletic Club due to the weather, the team was happy just to be able to play a true home match against a conference foe.
"It's nice to get outside, it's nice to be able to play at home," Price said. "It was a relief for the guys to be able to walk to the courts today, play, then go back to their dorm room."

Needing to finish in the top six to qualify for the conference tournament, the Storm -- currently in sixth -- have a big weekend ahead. Simpson travels to Dubuque to face Dubuque (9 a.m.) and Loras (1 p.m. ) on Saturday, April 21.
