Storm beat Illinois College for second straight win
GALESBURG, Ill. — The Simpson men's tennis team won 4 of 6 singles matches to earn a 5-4 win over Illinois College on Super Bowl Sunday, picking up their second win in a row.
After losing 2 of 3 doubles matches to start the day, the Storm (2-3) picked up wins from Zach Nelson, Geoff Converse, Aaron Smith and Karson Richardson to take down the Blueboys (0-1).
Nelson beat Rolando Salazar 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Converse earned a comeback win at the No. 2 spot, beating Michael Connolly 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-7. Smith cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over T.J. Lawal at No. 5 and Richardson beat Collin Walter 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
The duo of Richardson and Brett Dewerff gave Simpson its lone doubles win, topping IC's Lawal and Walter 8-0 at the No. 3 spot.
UP NEXT
The Storm open Iowa Conference play next Saturday, Feb. 11 with a doubleheader in Decorah, Iowa. Simpson faces Luther at 1 p.m. before taking on Wis.-Lutheran in a non-conference contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
