Storm split on trip to White Bear Lake

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. — The Simpson men's tennis team split on its trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes on Saturday, beating Minnesota Morris 8-1 before falling to Northwestern (Minn.). 

The Storm (4-5) swept the doubles competition and won 5 of 6 singles to handle Morris before falling to Northwestern.

Zach Nelson, Geoff Converse, Brett Dewerff, Aaron Smith and Karson Richardson all won in straight sets against Morris. The team of Adam Wieser and Converse edged out an 8-6 win over Matthew Fischbach and Calvin Ciacha at No. 1 doubles, Nelson and Smith beat Paul Leslie and Franklin Real 8-5 at No. 2 and Dewerff and Richardson rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3.

Nelson came away with the Storm's lone win against Northwestern, coming back to beat Landon Ridpath 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 2 singles.

Simpson travels to Owatonna, Minn. next Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 25-26. Simpson will face Ripon and Bethany Lutheran on Saturday and Martin Luther on Sunday.
