Desai, Juilfs put Simpson in third after IIAC second round

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Led by a pair of 77s from Shaan Desai and Conner Juilfs, Simpson shaved 15 strokes off its first round score and moved into sole possession of third place after the first 36 holes of the Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championship at Finkbine Golf Course.

The Storm shot 314 as a team, giving them a two-round total of 643. Central fired a 299 and leads the team race with 626, followed by Luther at 639. Simpson is just two strokes ahead of Dubuque (645), while Wartburg (652) and Buena Vista (658) are fifth and sixth, respectively.

Desai and Juilfs posted the low rounds of the day for Simpson after each shot 85 in the first round. The duo is tied for 13th with 162 each.

Entering the round in second place overall, Zach Hale followed up his opening round 78 with an 80 on Saturday.  His 36-hole score of 158 is currently tied for sixth but is just five shots back of leaders Justin Livingston (Central) and Andrew Peter (Luther).

Trent Lindenman remained steady, shooting 81 on Saturday after opening with 80 on Friday. At 161, he is tied for 11th.

Andy Hutchins gave Simpson its third 80 of the day, improving five shots from the day before. He is currently tied for 22nd with a two-round score of 165.

The tournament concludes with 36 holes next Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. There will be three waves of tee times each day. Friday's round will begin at 8 a.m. with Loras and Coe teeing first, followed by Dubuque, Wartburg and Buena Vista and, finally, Central, Luther and Simpson.
