Storm take third at spring opener
ANKENY, Iowa – Zach Hale, Andy Hutchins and Conner Juilfs all tied for eighth place and the Simpson men's golf team took third at the Loras Spring Invitational last weekend.
Due to unfavorable conditions in Dubuque, the meet took place at Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines on Saturday and Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny on Sunday.
The Storm shot 606 as a team in their first meet of the Spring. Luther won the meet (587) and UW-Stout took second (595). Buena Vista took fourth (632), Coe fifth (633) and Loras sixth (665).
Hutchins and Juilfs each fired an opening round 77 on the first day while Hale was two shots behind with a 79. Hale came back with a 72 on Sunday while Hutchins and Juilfs each shot 74, as each finished the weekend at 8-over 151.
The trio was part of a five-way tie for eighth with John Bral (Buena Vista) and Josh Grisa (UW-Stout).
Trent Lindenman shot 153 (79-74) for the weekend to place 13th and Shaan Desai carded the best round of the weekend. After shooting an 84 on Saturday, Desai cut 13 strokes at Otter Creek, shooting an even-par 71 to place 14th with a 155.
