Amsbaugh named IIAC Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Sam Amsbaugh earned Iowa Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 19, the league office announced earlier this week.

Amsbaugh averaged 20.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in three games last week, leading the Storm to a 2-1 start. In the season-opening win over Westminster, he surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career, becoming the 20th player in school history to reach the milestone.

The Sheffield, Iowa native scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds the Storm's 83-61 win over Westminster (Mo.) on Nov. 15. He earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Carroll Tip-Off Invitational, getting a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 85-70 loss to NCAA Tournament participant Bethel on Nov. 17 and finishing with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 83-74 win over Concordia (Wis.) on Nov. 21.

Amsbaugh has scored in double figures in nine straight games, including his 20-point effort in the Storm's loss to Wis.-Platteville on Tuesday. The 2016-17 First Team All-IIAC forward takes home the award for the fourth time in his career.
