Storm tripped up by Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Sam Amsbaugh had 20 points and five rebounds but it wasn't enough to overcome a hot-shooting Wis.-Platteville squad as the Simpson men's basketball team lost to the Pioneers 91-55 on Tuesday.

Quentin Schields came off the bench to score 19 points for the Pioneers (3-0), who shot better than 61 percent from the field. Colin Connely added 14 points and went 4-for-5 from 3-point range, where Platteville went 16-for-27 as a team.

Amsbaugh went 7-for-16 from the field and grabbed five rebounds for the Storm (2-2). Taylor Filbert scored 10 points and Simpson shot 38.6 percent from the field, its lowest of the young season.

Turning Points
Simpson trailed 17-14 with 11:04 left in the first quarter when Platteville went on a 15-4 run. Colin Connely closed the run with a 3 to give the Pioneers a 32-18 lead with 7:38 left to play and the Storm couldn't pull within single digits the rest of the way.

Platteville led 48-33 at the break and silenced any hope of a Simpson comeback with a 19-0 run early in the second half. Simpson went on a 9-minute, 10-second scoring drought during the run.
