Hawkins named to D3football.com Team of the Week for second week in a row

INDIANOLA, Iowa — For the second week in a row Nathan Hawkins has landed on the D3football.com Team of the Week after another standout punting effort for the Simpson football team.

D3football.com Team of the Week — Week 9

A junior from Solon, Iowa, Hawkins averaged 49 yards on nine punts in the Storm's 24-22 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 29. Hawkins had three punts of 50-plus yards, including a 70-yarder that is tied for the second-longest in school history. He also had punts of 52 and 61 yards.

Hawkins pinned the Prairie Wolves inside their own 20 five times, including once at the 4 and once at the 7. His 70-yarder ended up crossing the goal line for a touchback but was nearly downed at the 1 by the Storm punt team.

Simpson had gone eight seasons without putting a player on the D3football.com Team of the Week before Hawkins' first appearance last week. In just two games as the Storm's full-time punter, Hawkins is averaging 50.5 yards on 15 punts, putting nine inside the 20.
