#StormTop10 of 2014-15: No. 9
At Simpson, student-athletes are just that: students first and athletes second. Balancing sport and coursework alone is a challenge, but to excel at both requires a special individual.
Coming in at No. 9 in our countdown, we highlight the academic and athletic achievements of two such individuals: Louis Joslyn of the men's soccer team and Alex Severn of the football team.
Both Joslyn and Severn earned Capital One Second Team Academic All-America honors.
A junior midfielder from Baldwin, Kan., Joslyn maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in mathematics and computer science through the Fall 2014 semester. The clutch performer earned honorable mention all-Iowa Conference honors and led the team with four game-winning goals.
A senior defensive tackle from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Severn held a 3.86 cumulative GPA in applied philosophy through the fall semseter. The two-year starter held multiple leadership positions on campus, including Student Body President and Student Athlete Advisory Committee President. Severn earned second team all-Iowa Conference accolades after leading the Storm's defensive line with 49 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack.
