The No. 7 highlight on our countdown for 2013-14 is the softball team knocking off three, top-25 opponents throughout the season.
Playing in one of the toughest conferences in the nation, the Storm softball team's schedule is never lacking top-flight opponents. The 2014 season was no different, as Simpson squared off against top-25 teams eight teams. The Storm were able take down 23rd-ranked Washington (Mo.), 12th-ranked Central and fifth-ranked Luther.
Simpson 3, Washington 2 (March 28)
Pitcher Abbie Van Vleet went the distance in the circle and Tori
Haag broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the fifth.
Simpson 6, Luther 2 (April 5)
No. 9 hitter Britney Steele homered and drove in four runs as the
Storm defended their home field in game one.
Simpson 2, Central 1 (April 19)
Simpson took the second half of the doubleheader in Pella behind a
gutsy performance from Van Vleet. The sophomore struck out four in
the complete-game effort and hit the game-winning solo homer in the
sixth.
