Cross country squads earn USTFCCCA All-Academic awards

NEW ORLEANS -- The Simpson cross country teams earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic awards, while Spencer Moon was honored as an All-Academic Individual, the USTFCCCA announced on Thursday.

Moon tallied a 30th-place finish at the NCAA Central Region Championships to become the Storm's first freshman to garner All-Region honors since 1995, while majoring in accounting. The men ended 10th for their second top-10 placing in three seasons and carried a 3.22 GPA during the season. The women finished 22nd and produced a 3.29 GPA inside the classroom.

For a team to be considered for this honor, it must have compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 384 teams honored by the USTFCCCA. In order to qualify for this honor as an individual, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
